Global Access  June 2006

Global Access 2006: Global Aspect Triad No.4 - Near-Asia, Digital Presses, and Managing Cultural Diversity. This month, we shall examine the fourth of our ten ' Global Aspect Triads'; three ways of looking at the world of opportunity from an uniquely dealer perspective via our monthly selection of a geographical region, a product/service sector and a business management advisory. 1) Geographical region: Near-Asia, this region bounded by India and Singapore is an area of significant growth for the printing industry. In terms of the production and manufacturer of printing equipment and services, the Near-East will emerge as a major supplier region in the future and therefore of great interest to US dealers. India has one of the most talented 'people and knowledge banks' and Singapore one the most entrepreneurial business cultures anywhere in the world today. Technova is an example of an Indian consumable company with global ambitions and capabilities. 2) Product / service sector: Digital Presses, requiring less consumable but more technological support than their lithographic predecessors, the digital press is at the heart of the digital revolution in our industry. Linking the equipment, the technologies and the people remains the dealers' core value to the channel. Creating and fulfilling the niche between manufacturer and end-user in terms of providing added value services, customer support and sales and technical relationships has always been the dealers' core contributory role. Fair Deal, is an example of an Indian manufacturer of presses looking for new markets and dealers to service them. 3) Business Management Advisory: Managing Cultural Diversity, the challenge and opportunity in finding products for distribution from international sources is to both understand and to appreciate how other people live their lives, conduct their business, achieve their objectives and from this knowledge; to create a 'strategic fit' which will support and nurture 'mutual business objectives'. Cultural Diversity remains a hurdle for those who do not spend time to appreciate them but an advantage to those who do. Danny Moloney MBA, written June 2006
